| FROM THE BOARD |
| Greetings to all our members! I have now rested two weeks after logging 1800 miles to Chicago and back with a detour to Grand Rapids. (I love to drive.) I hope those of you that drove have arrived home safely, knowing that some of you had other places to visit in your plans after our reunion. Ed & Dorothy Collins did a splendid job of presenting us with a fine 12th Reunion! Plans are now in progress for our reunion in North Carolina, since there seemed to not be enough interest in the west coast for 2008. We thank Don & Darlene Ellingson for their planning of that west coast venture. We need to hear from ALL our members as to their desires for the location of our 2009 and future reunions. The citations and medals we received from the Freedom Team Salute program were greatly appreciated. Thanks to our vice president Sandy for coordinating that venture. For those of us that use computers, it is a great pleasure to use our website - ASAKorea.org. Much news is constantly being put on by Bob& Nan Rudolph, who are thanked for such a fine job. I like to go through the sign-in pages and then contact persons that I had known during my years in Korea (51-52) and to read comments from children of our former members. This year instead of having a professional photographer for the reunion and then paying for pictures to be sent, we could go to the website almost the next day and print out those pictures so posted. As I said before, haven't things changed dramatically from when we were initiated into the world of communications. We can all help our former comrades who are not presently a part of our group by going to the website, printing the picture of our reunion group or the awards presentation picture and placing either or both in your local newspaper with a write-up pointing them to our organization, inviting them to join. Also included our website address, which includes an membership application form. This notice in your paper will also give further recognition to us and our fellow comrades in "The Forgotten War." During our business meeting in Chicago it was addressed that we need to give special recogniton to some of our staunch members. Two such persons are John Garrah, who has been instrumental in our history, finding potential members through his research, printing this newsletter for years, and for many other ideas and contributions since our inception; and George Kinsley who has served as a director over the past 12 years and editor of this newsletter for several years. We welcome aboard this year Lee Kirby who is taking over as our editor and Dick Vance who will be a new director beginning January 15, 2008. On January 17th, we will be having a Board of Directors meeting. We need to hear from you on ideas and concerns so that we can serve you better. |
