Saturday is a great day to drive downtown Charlotte, park your car and walk around. There are museums, artwork, and free trolly rides around the city. If you can extend your stay in North Carolina, drive up to Asheville and visit the Biltmore House. Fabulous. Brochures are in your packet. Their number is there if you want to check on the rates or package deals (hotels & tickets). It would probably take most of a day to see this wonderful palace. Another extension would be to take a Wine Country Tour. Or you can do it on your own. Just follow the map. A special one I like is the Shelton Winery just off I-77 about an hours drive from the hotel. And they have a new Hampton Inn almost next door. Ready to retire to the South? Just south of Charlotte in South Carolina on highway 521 is a new development for seniors (anyone in this group qualify?). The name is Carolina Sun City and it opened last year. There will be about 4,000 homes when completed. Great looking place. You’ll also pass thru another new area of Charlotte called Ballantyne. Very nice! One more suggestion A number of comrades have flown into Charlotte and have no local transportation. A nice hospitality move would be for those who have driven would be to invite another couple to share a ride to some of the optional venues such as Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Billy Graham Library, etc. Another good way to know each other. |
